PLEASANT IDLENESS: AN ART TO BE RE-LEARNT

A weekend is enough to recover energy: immerse yourself in a place that transmits peace and, by these simple practices of awareness, you will immediately get great benefits.

EXPERIENCING SLOWNESS

Try to walk barefoot, consciously bringing one foot before the other and leaning slowly the heel, first, and then the whole sole up to feel the earth that sustains and nourishes your roots.

Walk slowly in nature and focus on your breath, counting how many steps you do at each inhalation and expiration.

Three or four 'walks' of this type allow you to find a better balance.

 

BREATHING CONSCIOUSLY

Breathing is an involuntary act that we take for granted.

Try instead to focus your attention on the air that enters and leaves your body: after a few minutes your breath will naturally become deeper and slower.

A long and conscious inspiration stretches the ribs reducing the tensions that develop in the intercostal muscles.

A prolonged expiration relaxes the abdomen, producing immediate relief from fatigue. The result is a psychophysical defatigation combined with a deep revitalization.

 

HAVING A REST IN EMPTINESS

There’s no need to spend time with a guru to find out the beneficial effect of emptiness: suspend all judgment and every action ...

Try for a few minutes not to do anything, not to speak, not to resist: just stay there, in your time and space, focusing on what comes to your mind (ideas, emotions, memories ...) as if it was a movie. Soon you will feel the relief of emptiness that lightly restores the labors of your mind.

 

USING THE COLORS OF NATURE

Sitting in front of a lake, in a wood, in a quiet garden also means taking time to observe the colors of nature: the blue of the expanses of water, according to color therapy, has soothing and calming properties; it slows the pulse and lowers the body temperature.

The green color of trees, grass and gardens helps to overcome moments of tension and sadness, by acting on the sympathetic system with a vitalizing effect.

To enhance the beneficial effect of these two colors, try also to breathe them: close your eyes and, breathing in, imagine that the green and blue color enter into your nostrils and spread gradually throughout your body.
